What Happens If You Call
Reaching out can feel intimidating, but we want you to know that when you call the Listening Ear Crisis Hotline, you’re connecting with someone who truly cares. Here’s what you can expect:
- You’ll be met with compassion. A trained, caring, crisis worker will answer your call. They’re here to listen without judgment, without rushing, and without assumptions. You’ll be treated with respect, no matter what you’re going through.
- You decide what to share. You’re in control of the conversation. Whether you want to talk about something specific or just need someone to listen, we’re here for you. There’s no “right” way to start, just start where you are.
- Your privacy is protected. Everything you share is kept confidential. While calls are recorded for training and quality assurance purposes, your information is never shared outside of those uses. Your trust is important to us, and we honor it fully.
- We don’t automatically call the police. If you’re feeling suicidal, our first response is to support you, not to escalate. We’ll work with you to create a safety plan that helps you get through the night and connects you with longer-term support. Emergency services are only contacted if there’s no other way to ensure immediate safety.
- We help you find real-world support. If you need more than just someone to talk to, we can connect you with local resources, like housing agencies, food pantries, mental health services, domestic violence shelters, and more. We’ll help you take the next step, whatever that looks like for you.
- We’re here for all kinds of challenges. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, grief, relationship issues, identity questions, or just feeling overwhelmed by life, you don’t have to face it alone. We’re here to support you through it all.
We’re here to remind you that you matter, your story matters, and help is always just a phone call away.
