The Crisis Response Team is made up of specially trained community members who respond to a critical incident involving multiple victims. Early and supportive intervention by the Crisis Response Team is designed to help the victims get back to normal functioning much quicker. Team members are trained and certified in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) according to the standards of the Michigan Crisis Response Association (MCRA) and the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF). The Team may travel to any business, school, agency, fire or police department, or other setting where people have experienced a trauma – like a business robbery, a workplace disaster, fire or vehicle fatality affecting rescue personnel, or, the sudden death of a student or staff person at a school.
Coordinated by the Crisis Center Director, Listening Ear is the contact point for people who wish to activate one of the four county Crisis Response Teams. Listening Ear is the access point for the Isabella County Crisis Response Team.
A caller may call the Crisis Center about the event. The Crisis Center mental health technician gets basic information about the event, such as the type of incident, the name of the caller, and/or the contact person, phone number and which county is requesting assistance. Then the Crisis Center staff contacts the appropriate Crisis Response Team Coordinator and relays the information to activate the Team.
