Dora came into care after a total breakdown in her relationship with her mother. Her mother signed the consents for her to be in our care and refused to participate in anything that had to do with her daughter, including keeping in contact. The Runaway & Homeless Youth Program staff helped her get services, arranged for counseling, set up appointments with the Health Department, and made sure she got a bus pass to get to and from work. They helped her make a plan to get an apartment. She learned what to look for in a lease and how to create a budget, so she would be confident when the time came to start looking for her own apartment to live in. The Runaway & Homeless Youth team also helped her being to gather the things she would need to furnish and live in the apartment.
Dora is absolutely thriving in her host home. She has made huge steps in the right direction and we are so proud of her. Dora has since transferred to the Transitional Living Program, where she will learn even more about how to become a fully-independent and self-sufficient adult.
