As a foster parent at Listening Ear, you’ll notice we do things a little bit differently than other organizations. We have developed a program tailored to support our foster parents. Of course, fostering can be extremely rewarding, but at times it can also be intensely challenging. Our trained, foster care case workers are available to help and support foster parents with whatever their needs might be. We also have our 24-hour Crisis Line, which can be called at anytime and you’ll be connected to the on-call foster care worker as soon as possible.
In addition to this unmatched level of accessibility and support, our foster parents are offered a wide variety of training opportunities throughout the year. These trainings range in topics from CPR to Cultural Sensitivity. Foster Parents can even request training topics if there is something they would like to learn more about.
At Listening Ear, we receive foster youth referrals three different ways, from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Community Mental Health, and the court systems, anywhere in the state of Michigan. Because we are able to get kids from several sources, the daily compensation rates for foster parents can vary. Generally speaking, our foster parents are compensated at higher rates than strictly MDHHS-licensed homes.
If this sounds like it would be a good fit for you, talk to us! We would love to walk you through the process and answer any questions you have with zero pressure for a commitment.
